William J. Brophy, 95, of Springfield, PA passed away October 8, 2021.
Beloved husband of the late Mary L. (nee Crull)Brophy who he met in Mt. Airy Pennsylvania in 1949. They raised 4 children, Bill, Tom, Mary Ann and Barbara. His two beloved sons preceded him in death. Bill had 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Rosemary Beckey.
Bill was a proud American and a brave and heroic soldier having served in the US Army during WW2 in the southwest pacific theatre of the Philippines, in their final liberation at the end of the war. Bill rose to the rank of Sergeant, at the age of 19. His daughters and family are proud of him having been decorated many times for his bravery, receiving numerous medals with the most distinguished Bronze Star with the very special V device, Distinguishing Valor in the line of fire, twice. Bill was injured on 3 occasions and has 3 Purple Hearts. He truly was an American hero.
Bill’s Viewing will be held on Wednesday October 13, 2021, 9:30am, Holy Cross Church, 651 E. Springfield Road, Springfield PA 19064 and his Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am in the Church. Int. SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
