William Bohne, Sr. Obituary

William T. Bohne´, Sr., 99, of Springfield, PA, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024 at the home of his son Robert surrounded by family and friends.

Bill, as he was known to Family and Friends, was the son of the late Catherine R. and Theodore A. Bohne´. Born on September 21,1924 in Philadelphia, Pa, he was a dedicated husband to his wife Helen of 60 years. He graduated from Philadelphia's Northeast High School in 1940, and on July 4th, 1941, at the young age of 17 and with his Fathers written permission, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served for a total of 13 years as a Signalman. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received during his service in WWll while serving on the USS Columbia -CL 56, and he went on to serve in the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he began what was to become a lifelong career as an auditor for a number of major railroads including Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, Conrail, and finishing up on Amtrak, while earning his associate degree in accounting from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church for 70 years. For many years he was a proud Mason belonging to the Shekinah-Fernwood Lodge No 246. 

One of his favorite activities was attending the annual reunion of his WWII shipmates from the USS Columbia, of which he served as the reunion organizations secretary. He loved vacationing with family, traveling with his wife to many locations around the world, and taking hundreds of photos, as photography was his main hobby. Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, was his favorite family vacation spot, where he vacationed with family for over 40 years. He was an avid Eagles fan, a past season ticket holder who attended the 1960 Eagles NFL Championship game when they defeated Vince Lombardi’s Green Bay Packers at Franklin Field.

Beloved husband of Helen Marie Bohne; Loving Father of William (Bill) T. Bohne´Jr. (Cathy) and Robert D. Bohne´ ; Lovingly known as “Papa” to his cherished Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, he was the Grandfather of Christina Marie Bohne´- Miller (Ronald) , Thomas D. Bohne´ (Amber), and William (Bill) T. Bohne´ III. (Victoria). Also survived by loving Great Grandchildren Ronny Miller, John Miller, Steven Miller, Skylar Bohne´, Savannah Bohne´, and William (Will) T. Bohne´ IV.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Friday, May 31, 2024 6pm to 8pm  St. Mark Lutheran Church 436 N. Oak Avenue Clifton Heights, PA 19018 and Saturday, June 1, 2024 9:00AM followed by his Funeral Service 10:00AM in the Church.  Int. Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Rd. Roslyn, PA 19001.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to the Pennsylvania SPCA, Pennsylvania SPCA, 350 East Erie Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19134.
