Walter J. (Ed) Missimo, 87, of Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024. Ed was a life long resident of Philadelphia, PA. Born in Philadelphia, he was the eldest son of the late Walter A. Missimo and Mary (Crilley) Missimo. He was the beloved husband of the late Julietta Missimo, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Ed attended West Catholic Boys’ High School. He spent his entire working career of 50 years in retail, working as a buyer and manager of women’s shoes. He worked at all of the major Philadelphia area department stores, such as, Gimbels, Stern’s, Wanamaker’s, Strawbridge and Clothier and Macy’s. Ed was a Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed watching Eagles games. His favorite past time was listening to Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and any Big Band music. He loved being in the sun and surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his four children: Cathy Ann (David) Flite, Mary Jo (John) Edelman, Julie (Robert) Moran, and Gina (Jason) Staufenberg. Additionally, he is survived by his nine grandchildren: Hannah Flite, Rachel (Chris) Uffelman, Paige (Travis) Crickenberger, Walter (Abigail) Missimo, Zachary Moran, John (Susannah) Edelman, Timothy Moran, Caitlin (Ray) Galeza, Joshua Staufenberg, and six great-grandchildren. Ed is also survived by his sister in-law Sister Elisabeth de St. Jean Baptiste, lsp and brothers in-law Edward McGinley and Louis Marchesano. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son Edward Missimo, his brother Joseph and sister in-law Sue Missimo and his sister JoAnne Marchesano.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 9:30 AM Divine Mercy Church, 6667 Chester Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19142, and to his Funeral Mass 10:30 AM in the Church. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
