Thomas (Sonny) A. Vannello, age 84 of Lansdowne, PA passed away surrounded by his loving family on December 1, 2022. Thomas was born in South Philadelphia, PA on December 31st, 1937. Thomas was predeceased by his loving and beautiful wife of 57 years, Margaret (Peggy) M. Vannello (nee Vietro), daughter Gina Marie Vannello, his mother Marie, father Domenic, brother Frank, and sisters Dolores and Catherine. Thomas is survived by his sister Carmel, his children Tommy (Randi), Michael (Allie), and Anthony (Sarah), his 5 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Thomas was a proud graduate of South Philadelphia High School, Class of 1955. From his days on Mifflin Street to his high school band “Four Crystals”, he enjoyed his childhood growing up in South Philly with many friends and family. Thomas met his love, Peggy Vietro at one of the many Holy Cross dances they both attended.
Thomas worked for Action Concrete for 30 years. After retiring, he worked for Church’s Auto Parts. He loved to keep busy.
Thomas idolized the music of the 1950’s, and his children have many memories of oldies music filling the house from his many vintage jukeboxes. Thomas was proud of his collection of 1950’s memorabilia displayed in the basement of his Lansdowne home. He enjoyed attending Doo Wop shows and concerts with his wife and children. Thomas was an avid hockey fan, he enjoyed watching high school hockey, college, and the pros. He especially enjoyed watching his sons play high school hockey at Monsignor Bonner. Thomas’ life was dedicated to his family, enjoying Sunday pasta dinners, a glass of wine or dancing to the oldies during the holidays. He always kept himself active finding home improvements around the house in Lansdowne and taking his dalmatian Stella for walks around the neighborhood.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation Wednesday Dec. 7, 2022 9:30am, St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3422 Dennison Ave., Drexel Hill, PA 19026 and to his Funeral Mass 11:00am in the Church. Inurnment Private.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Main Line Health for their compassionate care over the years. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
