Roberta A. (Roman) Glisson

Roberta Glisson (nee Roman), age 91, of Glenolden, PA passed away peacefully on September 4, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late William R. Glisson Sr., loving mother of Bill (Colleen) Glisson Jr., Nancy (Gigi) Glisson, Joan (Waynn) Dortone, Carole (Craig) Ashley, Jeanne (Jim) Carey and Karen (Chris) Brutsche. She was the proud Gam of Shannon, Andrew, Christine, Rich, Billy, Greg, Jimmy, Nick, Ryan, Elizabeth, Caitlin, Christian, Kevin, and Mia. She is survived by 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

Roberta was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Glisson Sr., her daughter, Nancy Glisson, her parents, Henry and Edna Roman, her sister, Carole Portmann, and her brother, Henry Roman.

Roberta was born on August 26,1932 in Flushing, NY to the late Henry Roman and Edna (Calhoun) Roman. She was the oldest of 3 children and had a happy childhood growing up in New York City. She often told stories of helping her father in his garden and in the kitchen, learning how to cook at his side. Even though Roberta lived most of her life in Delaware County, she never gave up her love of all things New York and was a staunch Yankees fan until the end. Roberta’s love of learning led her to the State University of New York at Oneonta, where she graduated in 1955, a rare occurrence for women in that era. She made friendships at college that lasted through the rest of her life. She later met and married the love of her life, building a family that she was proud of in the close-knit community of Briarcliffe. She could often be found sitting on a front porch on Hillcrest Drive, drinking iced tea and chatting late into the night with her neighbors. Roberta was a strong believer in volunteerism and dedicated countless hours to Our Lady of Fatima Parish as a Lector, Library Aide, and CCD Teacher. She also volunteered by recording magazines for the blind and providing rides to and from doctor’s appointments for those who were unable to drive themselves. Her love of reading was evident in the stacks of books on her dining room table, and she encouraged those who visited to take whichever book interested them. She loved to sew and knit, creating priceless family heirlooms in the form of a Christening gown worn by her grandchildren and precious Christmas stockings.
