Robert Milligan, Jr. Obituary

Robert J. Milligan Jr., of Naples, Florida (formerly of Springfield, PA), passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Bob was the devoted son of the late Robert J. Milligan and Harriet (“Dolly”) Milligan. He graduated from Bishop Neumann High School in 1961 and went on to earn a degree from St. Joseph’s University—launching a lifelong journey marked by dedication, integrity, and love for his family.

Bob met the love of his life, Agnes (“Aggie”), during his senior year of high school. They were inseparable from that moment on, sharing 58 joyful years of marriage filled with laughter, loyalty, and unwavering devotion. Together, they raised two children—Michele  and Rob—who completed their close-knit family of four. Bob’s greatest pride and joy was his family, especially his cherished grandchildren: Mackenzie, Ryan, Alexa, and Brooke.

He began his professional career at Butcher & Singer before transitioning into banking, where he rose through the ranks at IVB Bank. Over the course of several mergers and corporate transformations, Bob’s leadership and financial acumen earned him the title of Senior Vice President. He retired at age 59, embracing early retirement to spend more time with those he loved.

Bob also served honorably in the Army National Guard Reserves for six years. A proud veteran and patriot, he held deep respect for his country and those who served it.

A longtime member of Llanerch Country Club, Bob built lifelong friendships on the tennis courts and golf course, always ending the day with camaraderie on the club deck. In retirement, he and Aggie split their time between Naples, Florida and Cape May, New Jersey—forming a vibrant community of friends in both places. Long time friends Chuck & Carolyn Snyder introduced Bob to the Cape May Tennis Club and became their standing Saturday night dinner partners.

In Naples, Bob cultivated many friendships that became like family. He reunited with high school classmates on the golf course, and that group eventually grew into a close tight-knit group of 30 who played golf three times a week. Sonny, Joe, and Mike became like the brothers he never had, and their families became part of the extended Milligan family.

Bob also brought his business sense into a successful partnership with his nephew, Jeffrey, helping to grow Murphy’s Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning into a thriving enterprise. He enjoyed mentoring Jeff and found purpose in helping the company succeed.

An avid golfer, Bob was a proud member of LaPlaya Golf Club in Naples. Just six weeks before his passing, he achieved the rare feat of shooting his age—an “81”—which now lives on in a plaque outside the pro shop. He was also a competitive tennis player and a spirited bocce enthusiast.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Aggie; his daughter Michele and son Rob; his son-in-law Dan Farrell; his grandchildren Mackenzie, Ryan, Alexa, and Brooke; and his sisters Harriet O’Brien, Mary Ann DiIllio (Frank), and Elizabeth Gallagher. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Melanie (Mendez deAcereto) Milligan, his brothers-in-law Joey Goane, Joe Gallagher, Jimmy O’Brien, and David Goane, and his best friend and mentor, Bob Dieter.

Bob lived his life with generosity, wit, strength, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He was a true gentleman, a brilliant investor, a loyal Eagles fan, and above all, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He answered to many titles—BOB, BOBBY, DAD, POP, UNCLE, BROTHER, COUSIN, FRIEND—but the common thread in all of them was love.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
