Richard E. "Rich" Sweeney

Richard Sweeney, 71, of Springfield Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025.

Richard was the son of the late Anne and John Sweeney and was raised in Springfield PA. He graduated from Cardinal O’Hara High School, and Widener University then continued his graduate studies in Biomedical Engineering at University of Virginia.

He spent his career working as a Biomedical Engineer for the United States Army Institute of Chemical Defense, both as a consultant and as a civilian employee. He formed his own consulting company, Reseco, which he ran for many years. He enjoyed line dancing, photography, and cherished his time spent with family and friends. 

Beloved husband of the late Mitzi Fields: Loving Father to Lisa (Damien) Morris and Anne Sweeney (Sam Moss); Cherished Grandfather to Ashland, Layne, and Natalie. He is also survived by his siblings, John (Gladys) Sweeney, William (Lisa) Sweeney, and his twin Robert (Kathleen) Sweeney, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and more. He is predeceased by his sister Carolyn Lewis and brother Edward Sweeney. 

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation Friday,  May 16, 2025 9:30am Holy Cross Church, 651 E. Springfield Rd. Springfield PA 19064 and to his Funeral Mass 10:30 in the Church. Burial SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
