Richard Meroney, of Springfield, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on May 5, 2025. Born on October 30, 1940 in Philadelphia, Richard was the son of Leroy and Julia Meroney. He graduated from La Salle College with a degree in history. Richard dedicated his life to teaching, positively impacting the lives of countless students over the years. He was known for his enthusiasm for history and in preparing his students for success in life. He will be remembered fondly by friends, former colleagues, and students whose lives he touched through his work in the classroom.
Richard was a devout parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Richard loved coaching and officiating sports, especially basketball. He was a lifelong
Philly sports fan with a special passion for the Superbowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Richard is survived by his wife Mary (O’Hagan) Meroney, with whom he was blessed to share 53 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was the center of his life.
Richard will be deeply missed by his son Michael (Marianne) and daughter Sandra (Peter), as well as his grandchildren Liam, Sophia, and Owen. Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Meroney.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Richard’s Visitation on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 9:30 AM Holy Cross Church, 651 E Springfield Rd, Springfield, PA 19064 and to his Funeral Mass 10:30am in the Church.
