Rev. Martin Woodeshick Obituary

Rev. Matin E. Woodeshick, 83 of Darby, PA passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026.

Father Woodeshick was born August 25, 1942 in Darby, PA to the late Hugo and Margorie (O'Donnell) Woodeshick. He attended St. Cyril Elementary School and Monsignor Bonner High School for Boys. Fr. went on to attend Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, earning a Masters in Divinity. Ordained May 17, 1969 by His Eminence, John Cardinal Krol at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. 

Father Woodeshick was first assigned to Saint Agnes Parish, West Chester. Throughout his fifty-seven years of priesthood, Father Woodeshick served in many parishes across the Archdiocese as a Parochial Vicar; St. Ambrose, Philadelphia, Holy Child, Philadelphia, St. Edmond, Philadelphia, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Philadelphia, St. Bernard, Philadelphia many of his assignments were serving the Hispanic communities of Philadelphia. In 1995, he was appointed Pastor of his much beloved Parish of Holy Spirit, Sharon Hill, where he served as Pastor for nineteen years. In 2014 Father became a Senior Priest and served the community of Our Lady of the Assumption, Strafford. Father Woodeshick retired in June, 2019.

Father Marty lived a life of love, laughter, hospitality and quiet generosity with a gentle spirit.  He was so special to us all and always there for us in our times of need over the years.  He enjoyed spending time with his family especially as more children came into their lives. Father was such a quiet giver, people will never fully know the many sacrifices he made for others. Even as he battled with dementia, his dignity never waivered.  

Father Woodeshick is survived by his siblings: Mary Louise (Mimi) Woodeshick, Sr. Anne C. Woodeshick RSM, Francis X. Woodeshick, Katherine A. Sprissler (Fred), Margaret "Meg" M. Barry (Brian) and 8 Nieces and Nephews and 12 Grand Nieces and Nephews.

Members of the Clergy, relatives and friends are invited to The Reception of the Body, 9 AM Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Holy Cross Church, 651 E. Springfield Rd. Springfield, PA 19064 followed by his Viewing 9:30am.  Funeral Mass 11 AM in the Church. Interment SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
