Olga Mary Braun (nee D’Iorio) 89, of Cape May CourtHouse, Cape May, NJ passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024.
Olga (“Bunny” to anyone she ever called a friend) was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia. She attended St. Donato grade school and graduated from West Catholic High School for Girls in 1952.
Olga married her true first love, the late Edward C. Braun, Jr. in September of 1954. Their marriage was a wonderful journey of nearly 65 years. In 1954 Ed and “Bunny” moved to Westbrook Park, PA where they raised their five sons. Mrs. Braun was extremely proud and felt blessed to call herself a homemaker as she would lovingly say … “her real job was to raise five GOOD sons.” After her good sons became good men, she became a dedicated employee of CVS where she worked at the pharmacy counter for two decades. There she made friends with her co-workers and got to know many of her customers on a first name basis. She remained friends with some of her CVS co-workers and looked forward to catching up with them on their occasional visits to her home in Cape May Court House, New Jersey. Bunny had the unique ability to connect with people, and they connected with her too. Although she had just five sons, it wasn’t uncommon for Mrs. Braun to receive more than two dozen Mother’s Day cards. She was a MOM to quite a few others.
Bunny was a huge fan of QVC, she would often suggest that the on-air talent was speaking directly to her, keeping her company when she felt alone. Perhaps because of her fondness for QVC or perhaps it was just her thing, but Bunny was always impeccably put together with an outfit for any occasion or holiday. “You could always use one more pair of white pants or a pretty blouse,” she would say.
Despite her short stature, Bunny lived a very large life – and always carried herself as a proud, strong and confident woman. Bunny was fond of a library full of teachable moment cliché’s and used them liberally throughout her life. From “everyone has to carry their own sack of rocks” – to the more recent “getting old isn’t for sisses.” Perhaps it was her whimsical attachment to these clichés that made her such an important person to so many people or maybe it was because she could pray better than most. Should there ever be an all-star team for folks who pray, Bunny Braun would be captain of that team. If you felt adrift, in need of grace, redemption or healing, Mrs. Braun would add you to her well- connected short list. She was very proud of her record of prayer, and never refused a request to assist.
Predeceased by her late sisters Michelina Squilla, Concetta Appalucci, her adored Grandson, Presley Braun and her partner for life, late husband Edward C. Braun Jr (2019), Mrs. Braun leaves behind her five beloved sons and their respective daughters-in- law, eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Sons: Stephen (Lynnie), Townbank, NJ, Lawrence (Patti), Primos,PA, John (Sarah), Glen Mills, PA, James, Newtown Square, PA, Thomas (Lisa), Avalon, NJ.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of a wonderful life lived on Tuesday July 30th, 9am Visitation at St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026 and to her Funeral Mass 10:30am in the Church. Interment private.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Oblates of Saint Francis DeSales, 525 Washington Street, Cape May, New Jersey 08204.
