Maurice 'Buddy' G. Hamel

Maurice “Buddy” G. Hamel, 63, of Springfield, PA passed away January 8, 2022

Buddy was the son of the late Maurice G. Hamel and Mary (nee Dunne) Hamel of Philadelphia. He was a graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School, Temple University and Delaware Law School. He was a life-long member of Holy Cross Parish, where his interest in theater production began with CYO One Act Play competitions. He then went on to direct high school musicals at Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High Schools from 1980-2012. He was an advocate of Catholic education and began his teaching career in the Catholic grade schools and then Cardinal O’Hara High School. He obtained his Juris Doctorate and began his career as an attorney with SEPTA in1989.

Husband of Christine E (Kircher) Hamel; Loving Father to Matthew B Hamel (Kathleen Murdock Hamel); Sarah Hamel Fender (Daniel Fender) Cherished Grandfather to Fiona and Abigail Hamel, and Nathaniel Fender. Also survived by his siblings Mary (Hamel) Guerrero, Eileen (Hamel) Murphy (Mark Murphy) and brother-in-law, Alexander Marcone. He is predeceased by his beloved sister Geraldine (nee Hamel) Marcone. He is also survived by his dear nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation, Monday, January 17, 2022 5pm O’Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Rd., Springfield, PA 19064 and January 18, 2022 9:30am Holy Cross Church 651 E. Springfield Rd., Springfield, PA 19064. Funeral Mass Tuesday January 18, 2022 10:30am in the church. Int. SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
