Mary Beth Lavery, age 78, of Media passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.She was born in Philadelphia to the late William Lavery and late Mary (née McCarthy), and she was the loving sister of the late Eileen Lavery. She is survived by her brothers, William Lavery and his wife Mary Jean (née Hutelmyer), Joseph Lavery and his wife Rondi (née Hiser), and her youngest sister Fran and her husband, John Moscato. Mary Beth is also survived by ten nieces and nephews and by even more great nieces and great nephews.
Mary Beth received her bachelor’s degree in English from Gwynedd Mercy University. She was a sister in the Sisters of Mercy for twelve years during which time she taught grade school at Gwynedd Mercy Academy and Maternity B.V.M. Parish School. Later, Mary Beth took on a number of different jobs, sometimes multiple at a time: saleswoman at April Cornell, a secretary to allergist Dr. Khan, and a personal assistant for the late Joseph Grubb, with whom she enjoyed lunches at nice restaurants along the Main Line. She volunteered with the Foster Grandparents program at Highland Park Elementary School reading with the children.
Mary Beth was so generous always arriving with some small meaningful gift for her nieces and nephews and their children. She loved getting together with her many cousins. Weddings, graduations, birthdays were all occasions of fun and laughter.
Mary Beth spent her last few years at a senior living facility. She knew everyone by name, where they were from, where they went to college, and their family history. And they all knew her. She was loved by her family and friends and will be remembered for her gentle and calm spirit.
