Martha C. Callahan died peacefully on Jan 2, 2021 surrounded by family. She was a longtime resident of Springfield. She leaves behind her children John Callahan (Kathleen); Peter Callahan (Cathy); Meg McDevitt (Michael); Andrew Callahan (Karen); Roseanne Fantazzia (Fred); 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and joins her late husband John and son Francis.
Martha grew up in North Philadelphia, the daughter of John and Margaret McTear. She attended Little Flower High School for Girls graduating in 1949. After graduating she worked as a secretary becoming secretary for the Executive Vice President and Senior Vice President at Central Penn National Bank. Martha worked until the birth of her first child then devoting her time and energy to her family.
Martha's own mother instilled in her a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother. Her rosaries and novena book were always close at hand. Martha practiced her faith by becoming very involved in her parish church and school. The church was greatly appreciative of her efforts in organizing the Holy Cross Tuition Program. She regularly participated in the Rosary group and weekly attended Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. As her children grew older Martha returned to work at Villanova University in the Alumni and Development Office and then worked with the Blue White Scholarship Fund.
Martha will be missed dearly. She continued to share her infectious smile and personality with everyone she met.
