Madeline “Becky” (Overbeck) Chaya

Madeline “Becky” (Overbeck) Chaya of Somers Point NJ, formerly of Drexel Hill, PA passed away peacefully on September 24, 2020 at the age of 91.

Becky was the daughter of the late Julius and Madeline Overbeck. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1946 and Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. In 1979, Becky graduated from St. Joseph’s University with her Bachelor’s degree. Becky was a caring and compassionate nurse, and spent her career working at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital, Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital and Delaware County Memorial Hospital.

Becky was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church of Somers Point, NJ. She had a strong faith throughout her life.

Becky was devoted to her family. She had a wonderful ability to relate to all ages. She was the cool mom, grandmom and great grandmom. She was an avid Eagles fan. Becky loved gardening, puzzles, internet games, going to the casino and watching over us all.

She was the beloved wife of the late John (Jack) Chaya; Loving mother to Judy Greene (Sandy), John Chaya (Beth), Patricia Govan (Jim), Dee Ayala (Otto), James Chaya (Karen), and Irene Smith (Bruce); Cherished grandmother to 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  She is predeceased by her husband, Jack Chaya, her brothers John, William and Charles, and her grandson, DJ Hammond.  

Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass on Friday, October 2, 2020, 10:30am, at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 3500 School Lane, Drexel Hill, PA 19026.  Please wear a mask while in the church and social distancing is to be observed.  Interment Calvary Cemetery.
