Kathleen M. (McCrossin) Slate

Kathleen M. (nee: McCrossin) Slate, age 68, of Springfield, PA passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 20, 2022.

Born on February 2, 1954 in Darby, PA, Kathleen was the daughter of Joan (nee Stadth) McCrossin and the late Ferdinand McCrossin.  She graduated from Springfield High School in 1972.  Kathleen spent most of her career at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit where she was a teacher’s assistant for students with special needs. 

Kathleen enjoyed visiting the Jersey Shore.  As a child, she spent her summers in Avalon, NJ with her family.  She later found a love for cruising with family and friends.  Kathleen had an appreciation and a “good ear” for all types of music, particularly classic rock, and enjoyed attending many concerts over the years.  A dog lover, Kathleen was passionate about fostering rescue dogs, most of which she adopted. She had a wicked sense of humor and frequently played pranks on her family.  Kathleen enjoyed all things horror, from reading Stephen King novels to having scary movie nights with her sister. There is perhaps nothing more that Kathleen treasured than spending quality time with her family. This is especially true of her grandchildren of whom she absolutely adored.

Kathleen was the beloved wife for 48 years of Frederick J. Slate, her high school sweetheart; a loving Mother to Shannon Nieberle (Gregory) and Jennifer Redding (Francis); and cherished Mommom to her eight grandchildren: Leah, Allison, Maura, Paige, Logan, Liam, Perrin and Shea.  Kathleen is also survived by her mother Joan (nee Stadth) McCrossin and her siblings, Louis McCrossin (Gloria), James McCrossin (Robyn), Thomas McCrossin (Katherine), Susan McCrossin and Joan McCrossin (Patrick).  She is predeceased by father, Ferdinand McCrossin.  Kathleen is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 10:00 am O’Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Rd, Springfield PA 19064, and to her Funeral Service 11am in the Funeral Home.  Interment will be private.
