Kathleen Burke Obituary

Kathleen C. "Katy" (Coary) Burke, 85 of Lansdowne, PA passed away January 17, 2026 surrounded by her family. Katy was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Conlan) Coary and was born in Darby, PA. She graduated from West Catholic for Girls High School in 1958.

Katy was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo, Drexel Hill and St. Joseph’s, Sea Isle City. She volunteered many hours as a member of St. Charles Ladies Auxiliary and CYO, and the Lansdowne Boys/Girls Clubs. Katy enjoyed spending time with her big family and was grateful for her many summer memories created at Lansdowne Swim Club and Sea Isle City. She also enjoyed her Irish heritage, a good cup of tea with some type of dessert, CBS soap operas, Hallmark movies, any late-night show found on ion, and a gin and tonic with cherries and “refill with diet coke IN THAT GLASS.”  Katy was a proud mother/ grandmother/ great grandmother, with her family being her greatest pride and joy. She was a huge supporter of her families’ sports and activities, always ready to talk about their accomplishments.

Katy was known for putting others first before herself, helping others in need or sending a chicken meal to a neighbor or friend during an illness or surgery. She will mostly be remembered for her famous potato salad and her gifts of a $ 2 bill, a first baby’s bib or a single rose on graduation day. Katy was notorious for handing you a $20 bill for any fundraising event.

Katy was known to ask what parish you were from on her first encounter with you so she could find some type of Delco connection, which often led to a long conversation sharing each other’s life history. She was the heart and soul of her neighbors and nearby local stores, whose unconditional love and strength will be deeply missed; but will live on forever.

Katy was married to the love of her life, Richard, for more than 64 years. She was the loving mother to Michael (Stacey), Kevin (Suzanne), Brian (Karen), Daniel (Kristine), Eric (Adjane), Tara, Stacy, and Kimberly (David) Detweiler. A cherished Grandmother to Trista (Nathan), Caley (Brian), Kristen, Eamonn, Austin (Allie), Kyle, Erin (Shawn), Shane, Dillon, Kaitlyn, Molly, Meredith, Murilo, Corey, Andrew, and Kendall and Great Grandmother to Paxton, Morrigan, Harlan, Bailyn, and Corrin. Also survived by siblings Theresa and Peter. She is predeceased by her siblings John and Kevin. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins, godchildren, neighbors, and friends.
