Karen McGlynn Obituary

Karen M. McGlynn, age 72, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on January 8, 2022.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles McGlynn Jr. and Mary (nee Maguire). Karen attended Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School and graduated from West Chester University with a teaching degree in elementary education. Karen was a career educator, inspiring her students in the classrooms of St. Patrick School, Our Lady of Fatima School, Waldron Mercy Academy and St. Aloysuis Academy. Karen specialized in teaching Literature and American History, where she most enjoyed organizing literature circles that provided opportunities for critical thinking and learning. Karen was an accomplished guitarist and often shared her talents with her students by organizing talent shows, giving lessons and playing for services and celebrations. Karen believed in being fair and doing what was right, she often used her writing skills to advocate for others and a better community.

Throughout her life, Karen built a circle of lifelong friends who she considered to be family. She enjoyed hosting tea parties and Christmas tree decorating contests, as well as sleepovers with her nieces and the Blong girls. An expert deer watcher and pine cone collector, she would pile the kids in the car, make sure everyone kept their “eyes peeled” and excitedly drove around while balancing the spotlight out the car window. Trips to the beach were her favorite, only during the off season of course, enjoying lunch at Henny’s, dancing in the sand and collecting Cape May diamonds. Karen enjoyed holidays with family and playing card games after dinner with her great niece and nephews, always teaming up with Ace to guarantee a win every time. Family and friends will always remember her homemade cooking and holiday dinners at Irvington Road and the delicious recipes that will be passed on for future generations to enjoy. Karen was a thoughtful and caring friend who knew how to stay in touch and always remembered to send a birthday card. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and catching up over lunch.

Karen is survived by her sister Eileen D’Amico (McGlynn), her brother Charles McGlynn III and his wife Mary, her nieces Michele and Kristen McGlynn, her great nephew’s Nicholas and Ace and great niece Aubrey. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
