Joseph A. Samango

Joseph A. Samango, 73, of Havertown, PA passed away peacefully on December 27, 2020.

Joseph was the son of the late Anthony and Anna (Ruggerio) Samango.  He is a graduate of Haverford High School and St. Joseph’s University.   His most treasured times were spent with lifelong friends and family at the shore in Longport, NJ, especially at the 32nd Street Beach.  

He was the proud owner and President of Providence Steel Co, Inc. which he founded in 1968 and ran for over 50 years until his retirement in 2019.  Providence Steel was a leader in reinforcing steel placement in the Greater Philadelphia Area, Atlantic City, and beyond.  Providence Steel played a key role in the construction of some of Philadelphia’s most iconic buildings including Liberty Place and the Comcast Tower, many Atlantic City casinos, and many of the areas prominent highways and bridges. Joseph was a well-respected contractor who forged strong relationships with the region’s leading general contractors and the leaders and members of the Ironworkers Union Local 405. 

He was a generous father and grandfather (affectionately known as “Pop”) who loved his family above all. His happiest moments were spent with his 4 children and 4 grandchildren whom he adored.

Joseph was the beloved husband of Hope (DeHope) Samango; Loving father to Joseph F. Samango (Melissa), Joyce Samango, Michael Samango, and Lauren Samango-Timby (Greg); and adoring grandfather to Ava, Joseph, Anna, and Vienna.

He was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Anna (Ruggerio) Samango, in-laws Frederick and Joyce DeHope, sister-in-law Joyce (DeHope) Harz, and brother-in-law Frederick DeHope.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Mon. Jan. 4, 2021 9:30am St. John Neumann Church, 380 Highland Ln. Bryn Mawr, PA 19010 and to his Funeral Mass 11am in the Church.
