Joseph McCunney, 92, of Drexel Hill, PA passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025.
Joseph was the son of the late Robert and Mary McCunney and was born in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from West Catholic High School and received his degree from Drexel University.
Always ready to greet you with a smile, Joseph was an active parishioner and volunteer of Saint Charles Borromeo Church in Drexel Hill, PA for over 60 years. As a constant presence in the parish, he volunteered his time over the years in everything from coaching and organizing CYO sports, acting as a longtime member of Parish council to serving as a lector at Sunday weekly masses. As an army veteran he was apt to tell stories of his time in the service traveling overseas serving his country and playing on the baseball, football and basketball teams with his fellow service members. He was a loyal member of the Knights of Columbus and a 50-year retreatant of Malvern Retreat House. His proud career at General Electric spanned over 42 years.
Joe reveled in his status as the proud patriarch to his ever-growing family. Loved visits and get togethers with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. An avid lover of sports you were always likely to find him enjoying a Phils or Birds broadcast, watching the final round of a PGA tournament or rooting to win an exacta bet from Philadelphia Park.
Proudly stood by the side of his beloved late wife Patricia McCunney in raising seven children; Kelly Pawlowski (Joseph), Mary Killoran (Mark), Patricia McCusker (Daniel), Kimberly Uhrig (Paul), Joseph R. McCunney (Trishia), Susan Montgomery and Robert J. McCunney (Julia). He’ll be fondly remembered by his twenty grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Edward and sister Cecilia. He is predeceased by siblings Robert, Dolores, Frank, Richard, and Rosemary. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins and more.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Thursday December 18, 2025 6:00-8:00 pm at O'Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Rd. Springfield PA 19064 and Friday, December 19, 2025 at 10:00 am at St Charles Borromeo Church, 3422 Dennison Ave, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Funeral Mass 11:00am in the Church. Interment Glenwood Memorial Park, Broomall, PA 19008.
