With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Joseph W. Gilligan, 88, of Rutledge, formerly of Clifton Heights. He passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026.
Joe was the son of the late Joseph J. and Edna M. Gilligan of Clifton Heights. He was survived by his siblings; Lawrence Gilligan, Patricia (Karl) Eilinsfeld and Eileen (Ron) Sabatelli. He was the proud Uncle Bucky to Larry, Christie, Yancey, Peggy Jo, Michelle, Rich, Lauren, Karla, Josh, Anna, Sawandi, Leah, Kyle, Anthony, Gianna, Connor, Sara, Gavin, Lars, Uyanga, Hunter, Kaleigh, Sean, Mary Kate, Tara, Piper, Eleanor, Jocelyn, Kendall, Madeline and Sean Joseph.
He was employed at Buchan's Loose Leaf Records, Slevins Paper Company, St. Stephens Church and Marple Newtown School District. He was a member of the Clifton Hts 4th of July Committee. He was a model train enthusiast with an impressive collection dating back to the 1940's. He participated in the annual Delaware County Community College art exhibit. In recent years, he thoroughly enjoyed listening to classical music, working on coloring projects and completing puzzles. He was a daily presence and volunteer at the Schoolhouse Senior Center in Folsom, where he participated in various art classes, social events, travel club trips and the Delaware County Senior Olympics.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday, April 6, 2026, 9:30 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Avenue, Springfield, PA 19064 and to his Funeral Mass at 10:30 am in the Church. Int. SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Contributions in his name can be made in his honor to the Schoolhouse Senior Center, 600 Swarthmore Avenue, Folsom, PA 19033.
