John A. Scarinci, 96, of Secane, PA passed away peacefully at home on November 22nd, 2024. He was the son of the late John A. Scarinci, Sr. and the late Dorothy E. Mannschreck.
John grew up Philadelphia during the Great Depression but had only the fondest memories of sharing a row home with his parents, grandparents and seven aunts and uncles—despite having only one bathroom!
At the age of 17 John enlisted in the US Navy, served on the USS Topeka and the battleship USS Iowa, and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. After his discharge, he became a house painter, a profession he loved so much he was still taking jobs in his late 70s.
John, who also went by the nicknames Artie and Snookie, was a member of the Blue Church in Springfield, PA. He enjoyed following the news, watching classic movies, caring for his beloved pets and reminiscing about his life. He will be most remembered for his quick wit, generous spirit and his voracious appetite. Seriously, the man could EAT!
John was married twice, first to the late Gloria E. Krause and then to the late Jean A. Nelson, who predeceased him in 2016. He leaves behind a devoted daughter, Donna Renae, loving step-son Richard Nelson, and numerous other blended and extended family-members, good friends, exceptional caregivers and long-time neighbors.
John chose to be cremated and a life celebration/open house will be held on a future date at his home.
