John Tobin Obituary

John I. Tobin, 64, of Aldan, PA passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025 after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer.

John was the son of the late John P. and Sally Ann (O'Brien) Tobin. John grew up and lived his whole life in Aldan and was a graduate of Lansdowne-Aldan High School class of ’79.

John was a lifelong sportsman, competitor, and coach whose passion for athletics shaped every stage of his life. He began his journey in sports at an early age, playing football with the Clifton Heights Boys Club and baseball and basketball with the Aldan Boys Club. His enthusiasm and dedication to athletics continued in high school where he added wrestling to his list of sports.

John's passion for sports extended well beyond his playing days. For over 35 years, he dedicated himself to coaching basketball for various organizations, including St. Joseph's in Collingdale, the Aldan Boys Club, and the Marple Newtown Boys Club. Through his commitment, John impacted the lives of countless young athletes, fostering both skill and sportsmanship. In his later years, John developed a deep passion for golf. He never missed a Sunday morning tee time at Paxon Hollow and always looked forward to the annual Duffer golf trip with friends. A devoted fan of Notre Dame Football, John proudly displayed his loyalty with a dedicated shrine in his home—adorned with pennants, banners, and framed newspaper articles celebrating the team. His love for golf was just as present indoors; he kept a practice putting green on his living room rug and found joy in honing his stroke there.

In the last two years, even as his health declined, a good day was one when he felt strong enough to swing a club and practice putting in the comfort of his home. John was a hard worker throughout his life. Before retiring as a proud member of the Cement Masons Local 592, he spent many years working for both Pepsi and Coca- Cola, demonstrating the same dedication and strong work ethic that he brought to everything he did. John leaves behind his beloved siblings: Ann Eccles (Jack), Denise Brower (Joe), Patricia Carroll (Tim), Gary Tobin, Billy Tobin, and Christine Lohr (Dave), as well as 19 cherished nieces and nephews. Among them, his nephews Kyle Tobin and Ryan Tobin were an especially great support to John, offering tremendous help and companionship—particularly over the past two years.
