Jean T. Crooks (nee. Hoban) of Drexel Hill, PA passed away February 22, 2020. She was born November 4, 1926 in Ashland, PA, Jean was the second oldest child of James L. and Mary “Kitty” (nee. O’Brien) Hoban. She was an honors student and was class valedictorian when she graduated high school. Jean became the family caregiver after earning an RN from St. Joseph’s hospital in Philadelphia. Mrs. Crooks worked as a nurse for over 50 years, spending most of her career at St. Joseph’s (Philadelphia) and Fitzgerald Mercy (Darby) hospitals. Jean worked in a number of different areas within nursing and at different levels including being an Evening Nursing Supervisor. In her free time, She was an avid reader throughout her life and volunteered as an adult literacy counselor, teaching other adults the joy of reading.
Widowed in February 1970 she raised five children as a single-mother. All of her children have enjoyed successful careers and made Jean the proud, loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Jean is predeceased by her husband Aloysius Crooks, siblings: Mary Mikurak, James L Hoban Jr, Francis Hoban, Joseph Hoban and granddaughter Janeen Stolar.
Jean is survived by her 5 Children: Michael Crooks (Judith) of Lawrenceville, GA, Jeanne A Stolar (the late Frederick) of Braselton, GA, Kevin P Crooks (Debra) of Lansdowne, PA, Dennis F Crooks (Amy) of Erie, CO, and Brian J Crooks (MariBeth) of Leesburg, VA. Siblings; Ann Jones of Hatboro, PA And Elinor Harrin of Hatboro, PA, Sister-in-Law Mary Hoban (nee. Phillips) of Lansdowne, PA. Also survived by grandchildren: Kristen J Roseman, Steven P Crooks, Mechele Stolar, Kimberly Zola, Michael Crooks, Jeffery Crooks, Noele Crooks, Matthew Crooks, Sean Crooks, Nicholas Sengstock, Isaac Sengstock, Ashley Sengstock, and Meghan Crooks,
Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing, Sat. February 29, 2020 9:30am Church of St. Andrew, 3500 School Lane, Drexel Hill, PA 19026 and to her Funeral Mass Sat. 10:30am in the Church. Burial SS. Peter & Paul Cem.
