James A. Urban, 81, of Springfield, PA passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025 after an extended illness.
James was the son of the late Eugene and Joanna (Huston) Urban and was born on November 11, 1943 in Chester, PA. He graduated from St. James High School, where he was an accomplished Drum Major, and Widener College where he received his degree in Engineering. He worked as an engineer until he retired at the age of 70, marking over 40 years with Urban Engineers in Philadelphia.
He was a member of Holy Cross parish since 1969 when he and the family moved to North Bishop Avenue in Springfield, PA. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and tried his hand at beer-making. In his
advancing years, jewelry making became a hobby of enjoyment. He loved finding unusual stones and making them into jewelry for Kathy, the children and grandchildren.
Beloved husband of Katherine M. (Hoffman); Loving Father of Lisa (Chris) Schonely , Mariette (Chip) Vandevere and Theresa (Michael) Potts; Cherished Grandfather of Natalie, Kate, Bridget, Madeline and Kevin and great grandfather of Rory and Jonah. Also survived by his brother Paul Urban (Nancy). He is predeceased by his mother, Joanna, and sister, Helen. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation Friday, May 9, 2025 9:30am at Holy Cross Church, 651 E. Springfield Rd. Springfield, PA 19064 and to his Funeral Mass 10:30am in the Church. Int. Private. Contributions to the Providence Animal Center, Media PA.
