Jack Egan Obituary

Jack O'Neill Egan, 21, of Rosemont, PA passed away peacefully on March 25, 2023 at his place of residence, St. Edmonds Home for Children, where he lived for the last 9 years.

Born in Bryn Mawr, PA on November 14, 2001, Jack was the son of Christine (Curley) Egan and the late James F. Egan, who worked together to provide exceptional love and care for Jack, ensuring that his disability did not prevent him from enjoying the beauty of walks and parks, boisterous family celebrations, or quiet moments when he simply wanted to hold your hand and have his head rubbed. Their example of devotion to Jack was most clearly reflected in his siblings, older sister Siobhan and younger sister Erin and brother Colin, each forging a unique bond with Jack, and each finding their own way to connect with him, and let him know how much he was loved.

In 2013, Jack moved from his home in Roxborough, to St. Edmonds Home for Children, where he found his "Second Family" in their community of caregivers who welcomed Jack into their lives and into their hearts. His extended family of many cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents often got to experience the powerful strength and the absolute joy of the St. Edmonds community on various Family Days, with food, games, music, and so often culminating with Mass in their chapel, where the voices of many rang out in song, always bringing a smile to Jack's face.  It was also at this time that Jack began attending the CADES School in Swarthmore PA, another facility that welcomed Jack into their loving arms. Their lineup of dedicated staff, nurses, therapist and educators worked tirelessly with Jack to bring out the most in him, and his school days at CADES were one of the highlights of his life.

Jack is welcomed into eternal life by the loving arms of his father Jamie, and his Grandparents James F Egan, Richard J. Curley, and Carol L. Curley. In addition to his mother, brother and sisters, Jack remains in the heart of his grandmother Mary Patricia O'Neill Egan of Groton Long Point, CT, as well as 19 Curley cousins, 6 Egan cousins, countless aunts and uncles, step-father and extended family. His family is eternally grateful to the staff at St. Edmonds Home for their tireless and unsurpassed devotion to Jack and the other children in their care.
