Frank Costa Sr., 88, of Upper Darby, PA passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2024.
Born in Philadelphia to Frank and Giovanna (Pandolfino) Costa, he was the devoted husband of Patricia (Feighery) Costa and loving father to Frank (Patti), Karen (Bill), Patty (Mike), Stephen (Amy), Jenni (Chris), and the late John Costa. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
Frank was a proud graduate of St. Thomas More High School Class of 1953. He became a partner and owner at Monarch Shoe Repair, the family business, from 1953 to 1975. Frank’s passion for firefighting began when he joined the Bon Air Fire Company in Havertown at the age of 16. In 1976, he was one of the founding charter members that organized Upper Darby Township Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2493. When he moved to Westbrook Park, he joined the Primos-Secane-Westbrook Park Fire Company No. 5 (UDFD) and ascended through the ranks to the position of Fire Chief over the course of his 48 years and 28 years as a career firefighter.
Frank was a devoted family man and a dedicated caregiver to his son John. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Philomena’s Church in Lansdowne, PA. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures including swimming in his backyard pool, spending time with his family, and riding horses with his wife by his side.

Springfield Rd., Springfield, PA 19064, and Friday May 31, 2024 9am St. Philomena Church, 41 E. Baltimore Ave. Lansdowne, PA 19050. Funeral Mass Friday 10:30am in the Church. Int. SS.
