Eileen Quigley Caulfield of Longport, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2021 at the age of 95. She was born on January 8, 1926, in Philadelphia, PA the only child of Thomas J. and Winifred G. Quigley. In 1943, Eileen graduated from Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School, where she met her sorority sisters who became her lifelong friends.
Eileen met her husband Francis X. Caulfield (Andy) at the New Jersey shore, and the two later married in 1951. They began their married life in Philadelphia eventually moving to Westtown, Pa as a family of eight. Eileen and Andy spent 25 loving years together before his passing in 1976.
Over the years, she worked as a legal secretary and office manager in insurance and accounting offices, but her pride and joy was being a mother and grandmother. Eileen was a devoted Catholic and it always played an important part in her life. In 1991, she retired to Longport, NJ, the place she loved most. She cherished spending summers on the beach with her children and never missed a holiday surrounded by her entire family. Eileen was also a die-hard Philadelphia sports fan and enjoyed attending and watching Phillies games. She enjoyed her cocktail at the end of the day and never missed the evening news or her daily Inquirer.
Eileen is survived by her six children: Eileen Dalton (Bartholomew); Kathleen Finn (Robert); Nancy Winings (Stephen); Francis X. Caulfield, Jr. (Christine, nee Barse); Janet Celenza (Robert); Judy DiStefano (Anthony); and their families including thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The Caulfield family express their deep appreciation to the staff at Brandywine Living at Brandall Estates, Linwood, NJ, for the loving care Eileen received the last years of her life.
A private, family funeral service is planned. There will be a celebration of Eileen’s life later this year.
