Edward J. Maher

Edward J. Maher, resident of Glen Mills, PA and formerly Drexel Hill, PA and a former Pennsylvania Public Finance specialist died on April 8, 2022. Born in Drexel Hill, PA, he was the son of the late Edward I. Maher and Alice T. Maher

Mr. Maher was the beloved husband of the late Joan Moore Maher, loving father of Kevin, Joanne Hess (Curt), Ned (Bernadette) and Marty (Cecelia), devoted grandfather of nine grandchildren Jordan Maher, Katie Maher, Kara Brigandi (Paul), Laura Masterson (Michael), Allie Stonaker (Kenny), Michael Hess, Matthew Maher, Amanda Maher and Mauricio Sierra, four great grandchildren, Sophia Rose Brigandi, Lucas James Brigandi, Olivia Joan Masterson, and Myah Maher. Dear brother of Bernadette Leonard. Predeceased by his daughter Eileen Maher and his siblings Frank, Marie, Dotsie, Peggy and Betty.

Mr. Maher was a graduate of West Catholic High School in 1946 and Villanova in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 in Pennsylvania’s 28th Infantry Division. Upon his discharge in 1952, he joined the firm of C.C. Collings and Company, an investment banking firm Located in Philadelphia. In 1980 he was elected President of the Collings firm. In 1984 he helped to oversee the merger of the Collings firm with Legg Mason, Inc of Baltimore, Maryland. From 1984 until his retirement in 1996, Mr. Maher served as the Managing Director of Legg Mason’s Public Finance operations in Pennsylvania.

Ed was an avid golfer and longtime member of Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield. He loved spending time with his family.  He was an ardent fan of the Eagles, Phillies, Villanova, and Notre Dame football.

Ed and his wife Joan moved to Maris Grove in 2008. He felt it was one of the best decisions they had ever made. His wife Joan passed away in 2016.  There is no question that marrying his Joanie was the absolute best thing that ever happened to him. The recurring description from family and friends of Ed to his daughter was that he was a loyal friend and a true gentleman.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Wednesday, April 13, 2022 10AM St Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road Drexel Hill, PA 19026 and to his Funeral Mass 11AM in the Church. Int. SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Contributions to Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1140 King Road, Immaculata, PA 19345.
