On April 1, 2022, Edward (Eddie) J. Allen, Jr., of Morton, Pennsylvania, quietly passed away after a courageous fight against ALS. A 1977 graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School, 1981 graduate of St. Joseph University, and a 2007 graduate of St. Joseph University Master’s Degree Program, Eddie will be remembered as a gifted musician, vocalist and a lifelong learner who thrived on playing music from his youth where he first played the accordion, guitar and piano.
Eddie dedicated his career to teaching, learning and leading encompassing a dedicated career as teacher and administrator with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Serving as Assistant Principal of Student Affairs at Cardinal O’Hara High School for 17 years, Eddie supported student engagement in extra-curricular activities and involvement of the Cardinal O’Hara student life and community. Remembered by many students as Cardinal O’Hara’s Theater Program Director for over 20 years, Eddie built a program for students to share their gifts and talents whether on the stage, as part of the orchestra, stage crew or sound/lighting booth. Most recently, Eddie served at Cardinal O’Hara High School in the classroom as a member of their mathematics department, teaching his second love to music.
For many years, Eddie thrived on transposing music for fellow musicians with whom he shared the stage with many a band as lead singer and guitar player throughout his high school, college and graduate studies. Eddie’s love for music extended to his work at George’s Music where he enjoyed meeting and making connections with aspiring and experienced musicians. Eddie is survived by his wife Marisa Allen (Kutchera), mother Ruth O’Connor Gauzza, daughter Joanna Morrison (Patrick), daughter Holly Thompson (Jamie), sister Monica Conlin (Jim), brother Mark Allen (Debbie) , along with grandchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
