Charles Crawford

March 9, 1949 ~ April 29, 2023 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Obituary

Charles Crawford passed away peacefully on April 29, 2023. After being diagnosed with lung cancer, he enjoyed his last couple days surrounded by family and friends. One of his best days at the end included watching The Final Countdown while eating Philadelphia soft pretzels and ice cream with his son and grandchildren.

Charlie was born on March 9, 1949, son of the late John Joseph and Dorothy Ann (Griffin)Crawford. He grew up in Clifton Heights and attended Holy Cross Church and Upper Darby High School.

Charlie Is survived by his wife of 53 years and high-school sweetheart, Mary Jane (Smith) Crawford. He is survived by his cherished children: Kimberly Bladen (Douglas), Wendy Crawford (Daniel Sharp, aka Sharpy), and Charles (aka Chuck) Crawford (Jennifer). There was nothing he loved more than playing board games and watching old TV shows with his 5 precious grandchildren: Julia Navarro (Ralph), Jack Crawford, Noah Crawford, Benjamin Bladen, and Isabel Crawford. What they all hated most was when he said, “Does Your Face Hurt?”

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Bernard Crawford and his youngest brother, David Crawford. Charlie is survived by two brothers: John Crawford (Ruth) and Robert Crawford; along with three sisters: Dorothy Forbes (Robert), Janice Crawford, Brenda Miller-Milewski (Henry). He leaves behind many wonderful and loving nieces and nephews.

Charlie retired as a Sergeant from Graterford State Correctional Institution and co-owned Kim’s Deli in Norwood with his wife. Previous employment included Gulf Oil and SEPTA.

Charlie’s favorite past times over the years included hunting, fishing, and golfing – he was so proud of his hole-in-one at Springfield Country Club on August 11, 1996. For over 30 years he played cards with his Poker Buddies and hated missing a game. He loved football season (and playing Fantasy Football), and trips to the Casino.

Charles Crawford will be dearly missed by Joy, our precious dog who ate bacon with him every morning. He will be remembered and loved by all!
