Barbara Ann Salvato, 82, of Thornton, PA passed away peacefully on March 23, 2022.
Barbara was the daughter of the late Viola and Sigmond Shalbiert and was born in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, PA. She graduated from St. Hubert’s Catholic High School and then The Franklin School of Science and Arts where she subsequently taught Medical X-Ray Technology.
Barbara was strong and independent, having moved away from home as a single woman to start a career right out of school, which was not typical for a woman in the 1950s. After taking some time off to raise her family, she chose to continue working in the X-Ray field until the age of 70, out of her strong desire to help others. She was an excellent cook, attributing her cooking skills to her Polish heritage. She was also a skilled seamstress, making clothes for herself, her friends and her family for most of her life.
Beloved wife of Orlando Salvato Jr, Loving mother to Elizabeth Salvato, Margaret Murphy (Michael) and Orlando Salvato III (partner Victoria Celia); Cherished Nana to Claudia Salvato and Ryan Dougherty. Also survived by her life-long friend, Marlene Goren, family, and friends.
A private celebration of her life will be held at a later time.
