Barbara Alice (Smith) Kubiak

Barbara Alice Kubiak, 92, of Downingtown, passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Alice (Moloney) Smith. She is predeceased by her loving and patient husband Bob Kubiak, her sister Margaret Simendinger, and her brother Rudy Smith. Barbara is survived by her devoted daughters Karen Hopkirk, Nancy (Mike) Martin, and Jeanne Sizemore. She is also survived by her caring grandchildren Michael (EJ) Martin, Megan (Conor) Lake, Mackenzie Martin, Rob Hopkirk, Gretchen Hopkirk, Ashley Sizemore, Noelle Sizemore, and Tod Sizemore. Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren Isla Cabrera, and Declan and Jack Lake. Barbara will be also be missed by many nieces and nephews, who were all very dear to her. She will be especially remembered by her best friend of seventy years, Jeanne Brennan, whom she met on the first day of nursing school, as well Pat, Ellen, and the rest of her beloved “Beach Gang.”

Barbara graduated from Gwynedd Mercy Academy and Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing, earning her RN at the latter. Her career in nursing spanned over four decades, with time taken time off to raise her daughters. Barbara was a devout Catholic for her entire life. Faith and volunteerism were her constant passions, starting with years of service at Holy Cross School and Cardinal O’Hara High School. Later, she volunteered at Camilla Hall Retirement Community at Immaculata College, where she spent her senior years helping the sisters of the Immaculate Heart—which included several of her former teachers! Barbara was a faithful friend and gifted conversationalist, forming deep bonds that far outlasted her years as a nurse and volunteer. She was also a lifelong lover of all animals, and especially dogs, supporting many causes dedicated to her four-legged friends.

Relatives and Friends are invited to her Funeral Mass Friday, April 21, 2023 11:00AM Saints Peter & Paul Parish 325 Boot Rd, West Chester, PA 19380 A private interment will follow on a later date.
