Albert Antonucci of Secane, PA passed away on February 16,2025, shortly after his 80th birthday( 2-3-45). Born in South Philly, to Mary(DiAugustino) and Anthony Antonucci.
Beloved husband of Mary(McLoughlin) and loving father to son, John. Predeceased by sister, Dolores Pologruto and her son, his nephew, Joseph LoDuca.
Al often spoke fondly of his childhood, playing with many cousins in the neighborhood and spending many hours playing ball "at the playground" with neighborhood pals.
A U.S. Army veteran, drafted during the Vietnam War, Al was wounded in the line of duty, and honored with a purple heart. Al credited his military service with instilling in him a sense of purpose and direction.
After his military service, Al pursued his passion for art and design, earning a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Drexel University. He became an early advocate for sustainable design, embracing LEED certification before it was mainstream. Well before his degree, his commitment to the environment was influenced by Rachel Carson's "The Silent Spring". He admired activist Ralph Nader and even supported him as the Green Party candidate for president (Mary not too happy!)
In his younger years, Al ran marathons and was an avid cyclist. Later he found satisfaction in creative writing with his fountain pens collection, crosswords and sudoku. A skilled handyman, Al could build or fix almost anything- whether a kitchen, bathroom, deck roof. His love especially for woodworking, a craft passed down from his father and grandfather, gave him great satisfaction.
Al's wit was one of his most endearing qualities. His puns and one liners were delivered with swift timing. His humor was more than a sense of laughter(or groans!). A student of Buddhism, Al embodied the spirit of Bodhisattva, reminding others of the interconnectedness of us all. "Un solo popolo ". He drew inspiration from 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert Pirsig, finding meaning in mindfulness and harmony.
A celebration of Al's life is planned for Sunday, April 6, 2025 12-3pm at The Parlor Room at Media Borough Hall, 301 North Jackson Street, Media, PA 19063. On site parking available.
