Karene (Ataliotis) Cruz

Karene (Ataliotis) Cruz, 53, of Oxford passed away April 15, 2024, at Hershey Medical Center. Born and raised in Weirton, WV, Karene was the daughter of Nancy (Zatezalo) Ataliotis and the late George Ataliotis. A 1988 graduate of Weir High School, Karene attended West Virginia University. She spent many years working in the medical field as a certified Medical Assistant in southeastern Pennsylvania, before blossoming as a Lead Specialist with Sunoco LP in Newtown Square.

Karene was a loving and dedicated mother of her only child Kristopher.  Karene cherished her beloved dogs Bandit and Griffin and now is spending eternity with them. Karene was an avid reader, valued her time as a member of the Tri Delta sorority, enjoyed playing Pokemon Go, and was a fan of the animated show South Park. Karene enjoyed travelling abroad, trying new restaurants, concerts, and especially for her favorite band, Depeche Mode. 

In addition to her mother and son, Karene is survived by her fiancé Steve, and her sisters Kelly and Julie.  Along with her father, Karene was preceded in death by her grandparents, Peter and Mildred Zatezalo. She will be missed by the wide circle of extended family and friends that she cherished in life.

Karene spent much of her life being a loving and loyal mother and friend. To commemorate her abiding affection, love, and guidance, her son and fiancé will be hosting two Celebration of Life ceremonies in the coming days. One will be held Thursday, April 25, 2024 6:00PM-8:00PM, O'Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Road  Springfield, PA 19064  and the other will be hosted in Weirton, WV, April 30th 2:30pm-5:30pm, Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St. Weirton, WV 26062.. 

In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of her father and Aunt.
